…well its only blooming started hasn’t it!  Thank you to all of you that have sent me messages on facebook and twitter. Its really interesting hearing your stories. I think its so poigniant  that so many of you can relate to what were trying to do. Eat deelish food and be able to drop some pounds. All the recipes have been tried and tested to death and I even lost weight writing and testing them so if thats not proof enough I don’t know what is? I’ve learnt so many interesting things, like that a home cooked version of something is generally 100 cals less than a ready meal or takeaway as you are able to monitor what goes into it. So there is the drive we should all need to be cooking from scratch as much as we can.

I would love to hear what you all think of the new format too. Anyway, I really hope your enjoying it.

Masses of love

Hi Gizzie,

I haven’t seen you on telly before, but I catched the first 2 eps of the season 2. I really like your style, the mix of 50’s rockabilly and Audrey Hepburn.

Anyways, my question is really about the 1st ep. I’m surprised that when you did the lighter version of the escalope, you didn’t make a cauliflower mash instead of potato mash? Also, when dipping the meat in eggs, I only use egg whites, which works just as well. And instead of frying the escalope with a tablespoon of oil, a few sprays of olive oil and cooking them in the oven gives out the same results, but with even less fat…

Just a thought… love your work.

Your simply Fab! My inspiration, I love to cook and use all my Grampas recipes for things. Plus his old style curry that they had during the war, its practically fat free and tastes wondeful!

Hi Gizzi,

I just watched your show and really enjoyed it! I have one comment/tip for everyone about naughty foods when eating out - when I was a kid my mum always made us share portions of chips/starters/deserts. She would only ever have half and I try to do that still. If you share then you can still belong to the ‘clean plate club’ but you’ve had enough to satisfy :)

I’m going to try some of your recipes - they look great!

Hi Gizzi,

I love your new show, it’s just fantastic. You’re such an inspiration in the kitchen, and your recipes are incredibly easy to follow, even for students like me! Anyway, keep up the amazing work!! :)

Hello. Would it be possible for you to add the nutritional value to your recipes; and within them include sat fat?

Toni on

Hi Gizzi,
I have never heard of you before the new series of cook yourself thin started and I am now a big fan after watching all this week. I have always cooked from scratch because that’s the way my dad taught me and so adding your tips is really good. I have tried various diets and found some hard, some easy, some work, some dont, my main problem is my food budget, I have trouble finding things like lean meat and fish at affordable prices. (I am on a very tight food budget!) Unfortunately it seems to be the higher fat, salt, sugar content stuff that is lower priced everywhere! Fruit and veg is not so bad as I shop at a market most of the time for that but do you have any hints/tips on finding leaner meat that is not too highly priced?
Keep up the great work xx

Stacey on

Wow Guys! Thank you so much for all your comments and advice.

With regards to nutritional value, its hard to work out the saturated fat on home cooking but if we get another show or book I promise to put it to the nutritionalist who does the breakdowns for me.

Keep em coming as its great that I can learn something from you too. x

Hi Gizzi,
I am really enjoying your show. I think your ideas are fresh and easy to follow. I really enjoy cooking, but i am far too liberal with the oil! So, following your advice, i am going to go and get an oil spray gadget and a griddle this weekend!

Hi Gizzi,

I think the new series is great (although I have to do a catch up since it’s on when I’m at work)

I’m loving you style and can’t wait to try your version of the katsu curry (both me and my boyfriend are hooked onto japanese/chinese/asian style foods)

I was just wondering where you got your beautiful pans from? They look fab! Also where did you find the oil pump spray - I can only find stainless steel ones and was hoping to find something a little more querky in style a bit like yours (for a present for my mum who has a tendency to over glug with oil)

Can’t wait to try out a load of the recipes

Hi I just wanted to say a HUGE thankyou for making some wheat and gluten free recipes. As a celiac I was jumping out of my chair with excitement when I realised no gluten in the recipes. I was a keen baker before diagnoses and I had lost the urge to bake but you have inspired me to try again.

More gluten free recipes please, I am going to write to celiac.org the main charity with regard to your recipes. Thanks again Gail x

Hi gizzi,
I just caught your programme on TV for the first time this afternoon (ch4 Cook Y.T.) while taking a break from studying and I have to say I was really impressed, as the recipes look very appetising indeed.
Anyway, I realise I am absolutely chancing my arm and this is probably (in fact definitely) not the place to be posting my request, but I thought I’d ask anyway – nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say.
….I have about 20 or so people coming to a bbq in mid july, and while I love having friends, I’m also looking for an easy but memorable life.
I was wondering if you might be disposed to post up some really really really simple BBQ recipes – ideally, things which I can prepare the day before, so that on the day, I can spend my time with a glass of wine in my hand rather than sweating over hot coals for hours.

Kindest regards,
m.

Hi Gizzy! I caught your program for the first time today as now that I’ve left school I can watch it. I really enjoyed watching you create healthy alternatives to those dishes that we all love but that are so bad for us and I have to say that after watching one episode I then went online to watch some more and wrote down a few recipes that I can’t wait to try out. I love cooking but I also love fashion too and your style is so chic, very vintage and classic with a rock twist, Very cool!

Hi Gizzi

Love the show…fabulous recipes! Could you please tell me where the kitchen equipment is from, eg frying pan, oil pump, gorgeous oval spice bottles and pasta measurer? Just love it all.

Many thanks.

hi gizzi,

just wanted to say the new series is fab! i am always trying to find new yummy recipes which shake up the sometimes boring traditional and tasteless ones when on a diet. i have today tried out the mushrooms on soda bread and it was AMAZING. and i am having a go at doing the pizzioli grattin tomorrow. thankyou again and keep up the brilliant work!! xxx

Having only just discovered your series thanks to an article in the Radio Times, I have really been enjoying the programmes.

I have battled with my weight since having my two children, and although I am now at my Weightwatchers goal, I am finding it hard to maintain because of my love for a cup of tea & a cake!

I have now printed a load of your recipe’s from the Channel 4 website & am looking forward to trying them and hopefully preventing that weight from creeping back on!

Could I ask what the blueish non-stick coating is on the frying pans you use in the programme? I am about to replace my non-stick pan as it is no longer non-stick(!) and it looked as though the pans you use were far more robust and with a much thicker & heavier grade coating than the normal non-stick.

Looking forward to the rest of the series with anticipation and thanks for all your inspiration!

Re: Oil Pump

There’s no point buying an expensive Oil Pump, as you can buy 1kcal oil spray bottles from supermarket already and if you really want to be eco conscious, then just keep refilling them.

Hi
Just lovin’ the show - booked into Sky+!!

I love your approach and was hoping there was a book that accompanied the series? As I am destroying a small forest printing out the recipes from the Channel4 website
Help!

Hi Gizzi, I remember watching “Cook Yourself Thin” in an evening when there were four chefs and enjoying the recipes and information. I hadn’t realised that there was a new format and programmes during the day (when I’m at work) until I spotted it in the Radio Times. I’ve recorded it and am watching it in the evenings.

I love cooking from scratch, trying new flavours and ingredients, but have a penchant for baking, especially cupcakes (I’ve even been on courses!), so your recipes are helping me redress the balance!

My only criticism is that there is a lot of repetition in the show, but I know that’s because it makes it cheaper to produce and at least if I’ve recorded it, I can just ff to the recipes.

Keep up the good work

Hi Gizzi

I’m with Michelle above - when’s the book coming out?

I’ve made quite a few things now from series 2 and I’m absolutely blown away by how delicious they are and how good they make me feel. I especially love the asian and mexican dishes - that’s just the kind of food I love to eat and cook.

I also really like being able to watch you making each recipe on channel 4’s website - now I know how to have at my lumps of palm sugar!

Really sound stuff. Why would I want to cook any other way now I know how to substitute and still have things taste amazing?

Ottilie on

Hi Gizzi,

Caught a couple of your shows last week as I was off work sick and absolutely LOVED them, going to try the individual strawberry cheesecakes this weekend. The only problem I have is the time the show is on (don’t have Sky+). Will it be getting repeated at all in the evenings or at weekends?

Hope to see a new cookbook out soon, I have both the others and use them more than any other cookbooks.

Gizzi, Been hooked watching this current series, what a refreshing change to find a show encouraging people to eat food they like, thats healthier by just making some sensible changes with ingredients. Been a real pleasure trying some of them out without the family even noticing the healthy option. Great Series, keep up the good work, the nations obesity issue needs this sort of sound advice, and you deliver it in such an easy format. thank you.

Hi
Love the show but you used a lot of ground almonds in your cakes which I cannot eat. Does anybody know of an alternative that I can use?

Thanks

Shaz on

The recent episode of CYT featured a chicken kebab recipe, the recipe states to use a turkish or greek chilli sauce - can you buy these in the supermarket?

Hi!

I’ve just discovered the show and I totally love it! I watched the whole season 2 in like 3 days. I read on the channel 4 website that this season was all about bringing world food into our kitchens… I think it’s great, but if I can allow myself, it does not suit everyone. I am, unfortunately, allergic to peppers, chillies, paprika etc… I’ve noticed that there is a lot of Asian food on the menus, and well… it is a little frustrating. I think maybe the food inspiration and the ingredients should be more varied and browse a wider range. I don’t know what you think but the other day, I was looking for fresh bay leaves in my supermarket, and all I could find was tons of chillies and lemongrass! It’s good to be opne, but… I don’t know. I also really like European cuisine. And bay leaves have a better carbon foot print!
On this note though, I am going to have a blueberry, lemon and poppy seed muffin…
Thanks for a great show!

loved the new season loads of lovely looking recipes but everything was a bit meat-tastic where were all the veggie options??
